Balfour Infant School opened as a school in 1947. It was built, in the early part of the last century and was part of the Cottage Homes that housed underprivileged children. This building was the isolation block used to care for sick children. It is an old building with stairs, which, although not ideal for young children, has had many improvements over recent years.  Extensive additions to our building and facilities include a large school hall, a library and computer suite. The school site is very secure; the only entrance into the building during the school day is through the school foyer and then via internal security doors.

When bringing your child into school or collecting your child, parents are encouraged into the playground. This helps to build a good relationship between home and school – we want to have good links with all parents. If normal arrangements have to be altered (eg you are delayed or another person is collecting your child) please let us know to avoid any confusion or upset.

We are a co-educational Infant School taking children between the ages of 4 and 7 years. We have 270 children on roll, as each year we admit about 90 children into our reception classes. There are 3 classes in each of the 3 year groups. The children stay with us until they are 7 years of age and most then transfer to Balfour Junior Academy nearby. The school is in an urban area on the borders of Rochester and Chatham in North Kent which was home to Charles Dickens and the Chatham Maritime Historic Dockyard.
